Is product innovation important to you? Is it to us at Tempo! We all know that innovation is what drives growth within our industry.
Many teams now allocate a portion of their development time to innovation initiatives. Atlassian’s Ship-It Days are a great example. Our award winning Tempo Timesheets add-on for JIRA Software, JIRA Service Desk, and JIRA Core grew out of our own innovation days several years back (called Ofurhetjudagar, for those interested in learning a little Icelandic).
Other teams have built innovation time into their iterations, but often without clearly defined parameters.
Recently, a small development team at Tempo made innovation initiatives even easier for us in JIRA Software. They built a new add-on for JIRA Cloud that enables teams to clearly start, configure, and track innovation initiatives throughout your company, and entered the product into this year’s Atlassian Codegeist competition.
This small product reflects the belief that clearly defined innovation objectives can help drive the wheels of the software industry, and that these objectives will further encourage and enable developers to partake in these highly valuable initiatives.
How it works
- Easily configure how many hours you would like developers to spend on your innovation projects.
- Developers add “[innovation]” to the summary or description field on a JIRA issue.
- Developer can track their innovation work within the current period as well as past periods.
- Managers can track innovation within a period on an issue or a group level.
