TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND THE COMPANY

I’m the owner of Geckotech, which is located in The Netherlands and in South Africa.  My responsibilities are in different areas of the business — whether it’s sales, marketing, development, or management — I pretty much have something to do with it.

Geckotech is a software development company specialising mostly in web based applications (mobile and desktop). We are a small company that likes to build cool software and products, rather than projects. We also like to invest in the products we help to build ourselves. We’re currently a team of seven.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER TEMPO TIMESHEETS?

I have been using JIRA for years, and learned about Tempo Timesheets from a JIRA newsletter.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN USING TEMPO TIMESHEETS?

Around three years, I think.

WERE YOU PREVIOUSLY USING ANY OTHER TOOLS FOR TIME TRACKING, RESOURCE PLANNING, AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT? IF SO, WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO MAKE THE SWITCH TO TEMPO?

We had developed our own plugin at a previous company, but that was too primitive and we did not have the resources to invest more time in it.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE HOW YOUR ORGANIZATION USES TEMPO TIMESHEETS? WHAT PROBLEM(S) DOES IT SOLVE FOR YOU?

We use Tempo Timesheets for time registration and invoicing based on the timesheets, and also for reporting on our project costs. We do not use the planning functionality yet.

WHAT MAIN PURPOSE(S) WOULD YOU SAY TEMPO SERVES FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION?

We mainly use it for time registration, verifying time planned against actual time spent.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC FEATURES THAT YOUR TEAM FREQUENTLY USES?

Mostly the time logging overview. We have just started using the planning functionality, but are quite new to it. Real-Time time tracker, Timesheet approvals, vacation planning, or workload schemes are on our roadmap but we have not yet had the time to dig into them.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST CHANGE IN YOUR ORGANIZATION SINCE YOU’VE STARTED USING TEMPO TIMESHEETS?

I have been using the ‘log work’ functionality for many years without the Tempo plugin. With Tempo, data entry has become much easier and reporting as well. I use Tempo as the source of invoicing for all my running projects. We are currently not using Tempo for any of the planning/forecasting functionality, but we are intending to start doing this.

HOW WOULD YOU SAY YOUR EMPLOYEES ARE FEELING ABOUT USING TEMPO TIMESHEETS?

It is not optional, but it is just the way we work, so people accept it and most people are generally happy with it as opposed to how we logged work in JIRA without Tempo Timesheets. The old form of time logging was tedious and did not provide a good overview and we had built our own plugin to overcome this until we changed to your product.

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL ANOTHER COMPANY ASKING ABOUT TEMPO TIMESHEETS?

You should definitely use it!
